This body of work focuses around a collection of letters and postcards that my grandma wrote to my family during the late 1990’s while she was living in Ghana with my granddad after he retired. What interests me about the letters is the physicality of them. Here and now I have something that has travelled many hundreds of miles to get to us, something that my grandma took time and effort to write. With a combination of close ups of the letters and existing family photographs I have attempted to build a picture of the land and culture she was living in that greatly differs from our own and highlight the importance of letter writing as a method of communication used to bridge the gap.
